Camping and Whitewater Rafting on the California Salmon
Camping is available near the California Salmon but camping is limited. There are forest service campgrounds at both put-in and take-out. Rustic or backcountry camping is also available throughout the national forest.
Forest Service Campgrounds
There are two forest service campgrounds along the river. Both are
managed by Six Rivers National Forest. Both campgrounds provide fire rings,
picnic tables, and bathroom facilities. Camping is limited to 14 days. Both
Campgrounds are on a first come - first serve basis.

Rafting
- Nordheimer: Open year-round with 8 campsites.
- Oak Bottom: Open from mid-April to mid-November with 26 campsites.
Rustic / Backcountry Camping: Camping outside of developed campgrounds is available throughout the Six Rivers National Forest at no cost. Camping may be prohibited in some areas. Camping is limited to 30 days and sites must be a minimum of 0.75 miles from any developed campground. A campfire permit is required for any use of gas stoves, lanterns and campfires. These permits are free and can be obtained at a Forest Service Ranger Station.
